A restaurant and bar jazzes up
We wanted to create something unique in Mount Pleasant, a more social dining and drinks experience—some place that felt modern while being reminiscent of classic old jazz clubs or speakeasies and that felt high-end but friendly and comfortable,” says co-owner Aimee Goudreau. “That’s how 120 South came to be.”
Every detail of 120 South was attentively planned and designed. Goudreau and partners Chris Stovak and Lon Morey chose deep colors for the interior walls with accents of granite and rich wood, in addition to unexpected touches, including Goldie, a large faux stag head overlooking the bar.
The bar specializes in classic cocktails—Manhattans, whiskey sours, martinis, and more—and drinks that incorporate contemporary twists on timeless libations, such as the acai mojito or Oaxaca old-fashioned.
“We also offer Champagne and wine cocktails, which are very unique to the area,” says Goudreau. “Our bartenders create new seasonal drink menus every three to four months. We’re currently serving a number of tiki-style drinks for the summer. And, of course, we have a full menu of craft and domestic beer and wine.”
The kitchen rotates a seasonal menu of tapas, small plates that are meant to be ordered in numbers and shared. Options include fresh caprese salad, charcuterie boards, royal mussels served with crostini, and pesto flatbreads. Goudreau notes, “Everything on our menu is made fresh to order, including all of the juices and purees we use in our cocktails.”
Dinner specials are offered on Friday and Saturday evenings, and guests head in for happy hour on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
