Dining

An All-day Affair

Start your morning with a coffee, meet a friend for lunch, and end your day with dinner at State Street.

Downtown Midland has a new place to dine: State Street, a restaurant that is located within the new development complex across from Dow Diamond.

“We’re in a great central location downtown,” says Kurt Silvis, State Street general manager. “We’re right in the heart of the action for all of the new businesses downtown, we’re across the street from Dow Diamond, and we’re located very near to the Midland Rail Trail system, making [the restaurant] a great place to meet up with friends after a walk or bike ride.”

State Street’s goal is to offer people a “place to gather.” The comfortable eatery serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and offers free Wi-Fi to guests, making it an ideal place to stop and recharge at any time of day.

“We have a little something for everyone here, from specialty coffee drinks to get your day started, to our six craft beers on tap, and a full bar to close out your evening on a high note,” says Silvis.

However, one thing you won’t find at State Street is fried food. The restaurant doesn’t own a deep fryer, so all of the menu choices are fresh and healthy.

“We worked with the chefs at Dow Diamond to develop our menu. I think it’s really unique to the area and we’re very proud of it,” says Silvis.

The breakfast menu at State Street includes specialty coffees, breakfast sandwiches such as the Mediterranean—made with eggs, spinach, and Havarti cheese with a pesto and sun-dried tomato spread on your choice of a bagel or English muffin—as well as breakfast stratas, muffins, and yogurt parfaits.

Lunch offerings include homemade panini sandwiches (a house favorite is the Mango Habanero Chicken), deli sandwiches, wraps, and specialty salads. “One of our top-selling salads is the West Side, which is [made with] grilled chicken, mixed greens, avocado, and tomato, [and is] topped with Parmesan cheese and a roasted garlic ranch dressing,” says Silvis.

At dinnertime, a variety of flatbread pizzas are added to the menu mix. One of State Street’s specialties is its Buffalo Chicken Flatbread, which has all-white chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, Havarti cheese, tomatoes, and fresh romaine lettuce on a crispy crust. The dish is topped with a drizzle of ranch dressing.

State Street also offers live music every Saturday from 7 – 10 p.m., and when the warm summer months finally roll back around, there is great patio seating available. Guests have remarked that the outdoor seating gives the restaurant an urban air, as though you’re dining alfresco in downtown Chicago or New York City.
