Crepes, Coffee, and Camaraderie

Enjoy tasty twists on a culinary classic in Midland

“It was always our dream to own a café. Our original plan was to open a coffee shop, but we decided we should find our own unique niche instead,” says Brandon Morey, owner of Crepes Et Amis. “Our friends encouraged us to go with crepes, since I’d been feeding them my crepes for years. Katie, my wife, and I started with a food truck to build clientele, and here we are. We opened in March.”

The restaurant serves over 25 crepes in both sweet and savory varieties and has weekly seasonal specials. The crepe that started it all, the Strawberry Cheesecrepe, is still the best-selling sweet variety. “This is the crepe I used to make the most for my friends,” describes Morey. “It features fresh strawberries with a Nutella and cheesecake filling.”

One of the restaurant’s most popular choices on the savory side is the Edmond Dantes, named after the lead character in The Count of Monte Cristo. It’s a classic Monte Cristo sandwich in crepe form. Another favorite is the Good Morning Paris, a crepe filled with ham, eggs, Swiss cheese, and a touch of brown sugar.

“Everything on our menu is made to order, and we use the freshest fruits and veggies, cutting everything daily. We also try to stick to locally sourced seasonal items for our crepe specials as much as possible.”

The restaurant also serves a full coffee menu, featuring locally roasted beans from Narrativality in Mount Pleasant. “Using freshly roasted beans really makes the difference in coffee, and we think we serve the best coffee in the area.”

The café is comfortable and eclectic. The Moreys used reclaimed pallets to create much of the interior, including planked walls for guests to sign, with over 200 signatures so far. Stop by during an open mic night, held every other Thursday from 8 – 11 p.m. and led by a local musician.

“We wanted to create a warm, comfortable place for people to hang out. We want our customers to enjoy their time here and feel at home,” says Morey. “We really want each customer to leave here as our friend.”
